As we gear up for the Southern Alberta Walleye Trail (SAWT) tournament at Lake Newell on May 17 & 18, 2025, many participants are considering camping accommodations. Here are some recommended campgrounds in the Lake Newell and Brooks area:
1. Kinbrook Island Provincial Park
Located approximately 13 km south of Brooks, Kinbrook Island Provincial Park offers a lakeside campground with 199 sites suitable for both RVs and tents. Amenities include powered sites, showers, flush toilets, a boat launch, playground, and fish cleaning stands. Given its proximity to Lake Newell, it’s a convenient option for tournament participants. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made through the Alberta Parks reservation system.
2. Tillebrook Provincial Park
Situated 6 km east of Brooks on Highway 1, Tillebrook Provincial Park provides a “Prairie Oasis” with sites accommodating both RVs and tents. The campground offers unserviced, powered, and pull-through options, along with amenities like showers and flush toilets. Reservations can be made through Alberta Parks.
3. Westside Campground
Located in Brooks, Westside Campground offers 50 sites with various services, including power and water hookups. Amenities feature a playground, wireless network (available for a fee), flush toilets, free showers, and firewood availability.
